In 2004, Harrah's Entertainment purchased Binion's Horseshoe, renaming it just "Binion's" and announced that the 2005 Series events would be held at the Harrah's-owned Rio Hotel and Casino, located just off the Las Vegas Strip, with the final two days of the main event held downtown at Binion's in celebration of the centennial of the founding of Las Vegas. It also added a made-for-television $2 million "freeroll" invitational "Tournament of Champions" (TOC) event won by Annie Duke as a "winner-take-all" event.
The 2005 World Series of Poker opened play on June 2, continuing through the Main Event No Limit World Championship starting on July 7. The conclusion of the Main Event on July 15 marked the close of play, and the largest prize in sports and/or television history ($7,500,000) was awarded to the winner.
The event goes from July 28 to August 10.

Colorado Man Won a $12,500 World Series of Poker Prize Package in a Sattelite Tournament

A 44-year-old carpenter from Northglen, Colo., recently won a $12,500 World Series of Poker (WSOP) prize package in a freeroll tournament sponsored by leading online poker guide, PokerListings.com (pokerlistings.com), and top internet poker room Pacific Poker. Soon he will be facing some of the best poker players in the world at the WSOP in Las Vegas.
Ron Brown first started playing poker online about three years ago and recently pulled in his biggest tournament win to earn a spot at the World Series of Poker this summer.
In early May, Brown won a $12,500 WSOP Main Event prize package in a freeroll tournament sponsored by PokerListings.com and Pacific Poker. The package includes the $10,000 buy-in and $2,500 for travel and accommodation expenses to the WSOP in Las Vegas.
“This win is great. I’m very excited about it,” Brown said. “This tournament was my single biggest win.”
Brown won the first of three PokerListings.com freeroll tournaments with WSOP Main Event prize packages offered with Pacific Poker. The second will be played on June 11, 2006, and the third will be played on July 16, 2006. In addition to the WSOP prize package, $2,500 in cash will be spread out between places 2-20, with second place receiving a $1,000 payout.

Many online poker players suspect that poker playing software programs are playing right along side them – and winning big.

That might sound trivial to some – but in the online world it seems that people cannot even be assured of that.
Concern has been growing for quite some time now about the existence of advanced card-playing robots that have the ability to outplay human opponents. The online casinos are worried enough about the problem that most of them have entire teams of programmers dedicated to detecting anyone who uses them. There is no question that poker bots exist. There are even a few that are commercially available. The question is how effective are these bots? Well that depends on which poker bot you are talking about.
There are two main problems with most commercially available bots. The first is that some are way too complicated for the average user to use. New Version of the Poker Playing Dogs Famous Picture

“I swore I’d never do a version of dogs playing cards,” says Ron Burns. “But everyone’s playing poker these days and too many people were asking for this. Quite frankly, I folded.”
The result of this broken promise? Burns Studio Publishing is pleased to announce the release of limited editions of “Kong Juice and Cards,” Burns’ riff on the classic C.M. Coolidge image of dogs gathered around a card table for a night of poker.
The Burns version features a German Shepherd, a Yellow Labrador, a Beagle, a Boston Terrier and a Dachshund, each sporting high-tech toys such as iPods and Blackberries.
The name “Kong juice” comes from the popular cylindrical-shaped chew toy, a Kong, which is pictured here as a drinking cup for each of the players.
The original acrylic on canvas painting measures 36” x 60” and is on display at Vessley Gallery in Scottsdale, Ariz., with a price tag of $49,500.
Burns Studio Publishing produced 100 limited edition giclees on stretched canvas, 29” x 48” for $2,250 each and 195 limited edition giclees on archival paper, 22” x 34” for $850. The limited editions are hand-signed and numbered by Ron Burns.
One limited edition is currently offered on eBay to benefit National Dog Day, a newly created U.S. holiday to be first celebrated August 26, 2006. Burns is the official artist for National Dog Day.
“Kong Juice” represents the third time Burns has produced a piece inspired by another artist. An early piece titled “Roy Speaks” is based on his admiration for the artist Roy Lichtenstein, and Burns’ “Henri and the Goldfish” is based on his love of Matisse.
Burns is artist in residence for the Humane Society of the United State and has a long-term commitment to improving the lives of animals, such as shelter dogs, and search and rescue dogs. Besides producing original works and private commission projects, Burns has helped raise millions of dollars to benefit animal-related charities. Within the past year he has painted the portraits of dogs owned by celebrities including Elizabeth Taylor, Doc Severinsen, and Joan Rivers as a means of raising funds and awareness of the needs of animals.
His work will also be featured on a January 29, 2006 episode of ABC's "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
